Udo Dahmen

Udo Dahmen studied classical percussion at the Musikhochschule Rheinland in Aachen and Cologne and Jazz drums with Dante Agostini in Paris. He has been the artistic director and managing director of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg since 2003 and also serves in an honorary capacity as vice president of the German Music Council. Before becoming artistic director, Dahmen was a professional drummer (Kraan, Lake, Inga Rumpf, Charlie Mariano, Sarah Brightman, Eberhard Schoener, feat. Sting, Nina Hagen, Gianna Nannini, Jack Bruce, Gary Brooker).

The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg is an higher education institution and competence centre for the music and creative industries and their pop cultural scenes. By focusing its study programmes on popular music, it offers an academic education that is unique in Germany’s public university landscape. Numerous successful careers of musicians and creatives have been founded here. Parallel to its function as a teaching institution, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg, as a competence centre, realises numerous projects in a regional, national and international context.
